Jake Burton Carpenter founded Burton Snowboards in Londonderry, Vermont in 1977. Within two years, he was in debt and building each board himself. Realizing that a snowboard company cannot exist without a sport to support it, Jake spent the early years promoting the sport of snowboarding, organizing competitions, and trying to create a market. Once the sport began to grow roots, the focus turned to Burton products by incorporating the latest technologies like P-tex bases and steel edges.
