Durometer

78a - Soft and gooey, this is the most common durometer we see in the longboard/cruiser wheel world. These wheels have great grip for cornering and easily rolls over cracks, small rocks, and rough surfaces without tripping you up. When sliding, 78a wheels have a tendency to smear across the surface of the road, offer great control, slow you down rapidly, wear quickly, and leave thane lines. Ideal for cruising, carving, freeride, and downhill.

Urethane skate wheels generally range from 75a-101a, the numbers increase with the hardness of the wheel.

Wheel Profile

You may notice a discrepancy between what we designate a wide, standard or narrow and what the brands do. This classification is our opinion based on years of skating, as well as looking at the profile of the wheel as it compares to what we believe is a standard profile. You just have to trust us on this.

Wide - Wide wheels provide more traction and stability at high speed, so you'll be less likely to slip out of your line.

Surface Type

Smooth - Smooth wheels have a shiny coating on their surface that is commonly referred to as its skin or mold release. Smooth wheels are generally preferred for their grip and traction.

Formula

All-Terrain Formula (ATF) - All-Terrain Formula wheels are poured in a special soft urethane Bones calls "All-Terrain Formula." ATF wheels are excellent for rougher terrain so regardless of road quality, this revolutionary formula will roll you there quickly and smoothly.

Suggested Riser Size (in)

This is the riser size we suggest using if you want to avoid wheel bite, essentially the larger the diameter of the wheel the more likely you are to get wheel bite if you don't add risers of this size to your complete, so the larger the wheels the larger the riser required.

Powell Peralta ATF All-Terrain Formula Skateboard Wheels - red/skelehands (78a)
I've had these for a few months and they are just what I needed. I have a McGill reissue and had some 97a G-Bones on it, and all I was doing was cruising my neighborhood and those wheels were just too hard for that. I got these ATFs and the size and softness are perfect for the bumpy streets I ride on. I can tell a huge difference between the 78a and 97a. The ATFs will roll over just about anything pretty comfortably, and then when you get on a smooth surface, they glide nicely. And while I haven't had them all that long, they aren't really showing much wear, so they appear to be pretty durable. I had an issue with wheel bite with my G-Bones on Tracker trucks, but I added 1/4" risers and that stopped, and I still have no bite problem with the larger ATFs. I love the skele hands graphic but unfortunately the graphic paint flakes off easily, which is my only complaint, but oh well I guess that's bound to happen eventually no matter what. Bottom line- if you want a great cruising wheel for your fat 80s reissue deck or a longboard, these are sweet. Powell Peralta/Skate One knows what they're doing when it comes to making wheels (and anything else skateboarding, really).
