      You can't beat Vans classic checkerboard for the price. Comfortable, inexpensive, and good-looking, stands out wherever I go. Even though Vans has some canvas reinforcement in the canvas at the toe, my big toe still wears a hole through it after about a year if I don't put some moleskin inside to reinforce it. Without moleskin I get about a year's worth of wear, with moleskin two years, but I always have about 3 pairs of Vans that I rotate.
