Foundation Skateboards was founded by Tod Swank in 1989. Swank grew up skating the Del Mar Ranch in the early '80s and went on to work as a staff photographer at Transworld till '89. At this time, Steve Rocco from Sims was in the process of revolutionizing street skating and decided to help Swank out by giving Foundation a start. Swank stored his entire inventory underneath his bed and made sales calls from a makeshift desk that was really just a door turned sideways.
