Boomtown Freeride 11 went down last Saturday May 31st with a bang. Sunny skies, a solid turnout, and a steep windy slope filled the day with hours of care free urethane shredding in Washougal, Washington. With more than 80 registered riders, there were many new faces in the crowd who came to ride with other downhill skaters of all ages and skill levels from across the northwest.
Steven Suhama, Connor Stanek, and Ben Bartlet stack up tight through the righty.
This was the first every Boomtown at this location, so I was a little concerned about what the neighborhood and local cops would think. Washougal PD showed up about 30 minutes into the jam and it was literally the shortest conversation I’ve ever had with a police officer. After I told him what we were doing, he said, “looks like you’re having a lot of fun”, and drove off.
James Wetherell has been coming to Boomtown jams since the beginning and gets faster and steezier every time. This was his first jam in open class and he still managed to make the podium.
Jimmy James John Meyers gettin’ barreled.
Riders latch on during a rare opportunity for a free ride up the hill.
Arbor‘s Brandon Tissen easily could have stolen a podium spot but instead opted for a spot at the judging table.
I also took a judge spot alongside Omen Longboards‘ Nate Blackburn and Longboard Larry’s Jed Johnson.
Grom podium (14 & under) left to right: 1st- Camden Benesh, 2nd- Martin Depass, 3rd- Harrison Finney, 4th- Chris Tavas.
