Skate Rising Feed the Need Tour

Tactics is proud to partner with Exposure Skate to present the Skate Rising Feed the Need Tour, a west coast event series focused on teaching "compassion through service and empowerment through skateboarding" to girls between the ages of 4-18. In addition to receiving free learn-to-skate lessons from Stomp Sessions professional coaches, participants will also be shown the value of community service by helping to build care kits to benefit the homeless. Don't have a skateboard? Free rental boards will be available to all and free raffles for skate gear and more will be held at each event.

The tour culminates here in our home town of Eugene, OR at WJ Skatepark on July 14th, the International Day of Service. Bring yourself, bring your BFF, your sister, your daughter, niece and lady-friend. See you there!

Girls Skateboarding for a Better World

Skate Rising, a youth-focused skateboarding program, will be taking over skate parks along the west coast this month. Between July 4th and July 14th,  Skate Rising will be offering fun, free community events as part of the five-stop Feed the Need 2018 tour, focused on feeding the homeless.  Skate Rising is the youth program of Exposure Skate, a non profit that empowers women and girls through skateboarding.

The tour, sponsored by Tactics, will be holding events in five major cities with the goal of building 1,000 care kits to benefit the homeless, inspire confidence and compassion in girls, and offer free learn-to-skate clinics run by professionals from Stomp Sessions. Each event offers free rental gear so anyone can get on a board! At the end of every session, fun items and gear are raffled off for free.  All participants can enter by signing a “commit to kindness” contract as part of a larger anti-bullying initiative.

On July 14th Skate Rising will be holding the flagship event of the Feed the Need tour in Eugene, Oregon alongside  six international events run by community partners for our inaugural International Day of Service.  Skate Rising has inspired communities around the world to create similar programming and our partnering events will take place throughout the U.S., Canada, and Australia.

Skate Rising is the youth program of the nonprofit organization Exposure Skate and the programs mission is to teach “compassion through service and empowerment through skateboarding” to girls between the ages of 4-18. This special program was launched less than two years ago after Calli Kelsay, Skate Rising Founder and Program Director, saw the life lessons that came naturally for her own daughters while skateboarding. “I saw them push through fear, fall and get back up over and over again. In a very short time they gained real confidence through the experience of skateboarding. I kept thinking that every girl should have the opportunity to learn these lessons early in life.”

Skate Rising now holds monthly events in both Encinitas, CA and Phoenix, AZ. Program participation has grown by 300% in less than two years, and benefits an average of 250 individuals monthly. Participants have gained knowledge and have supported: refugees, children’s hospital patients, underprivileged youth, veterans, foster children, pediatric cancer patients, and many others.
