Overview
Taking design cues from some of their classic runners and revamping the construction for skate specific performance, the New Balance 598 skate shoes get high marks. A flexible REVlite midsole provides excellent cushioning and board feel, while a reinforced, one-piece toe offers a satisfying flick. Whatever your style on the board, you're bound to dig these.

  • Polyurethane Insole
Sole

Cupsole - Cupsoles are durable, well-cushioned and provide the best impact protection against hard landings. The sole consists of a single rubber layer, reinforced with glue then stitched to the upper. Cupsoles generally last longer than vulcanized soles, but don't provide as much flexibility and board feel right out of the box.

Technology

Mesh Tongue - Allows for greater breathability which means your feet feel better while you're shredding that 'crete.

REVlite EVA Midsole - REVlite is an innovative foam compound providing the responsiveness and durability of foams 30% heavier. REVlite offers a lightweight ride without minimizing construction or sacrificing underfoot cushioning or stability.

NDurance Rubber - N-Durance is a highly durable rubber compound that increases the lifespan of this shoe's outsole.

Internal Toe Protection - Hidden from view but working hard to provide extra durability.

Polyurethane Insole - Closed cell polyurethane insert absorbs impacts and provides a consistent fit.

Good but far from great

New Balance 598 Skate Shoes
I have tried many types of skate shoes & note that they all break down eventually but these fell apart in less than a week of skating only a few hours a day, the board feel is good but for the price , it is just not worth it.

New Balance 598 Skate Shoes
I reviewed them before and I have bought them twice since my first review. They do have a break in period and can be stiff for about a week but they are golden after that. Order a half size up.

New Balance 598 Skate Shoes
These shoes are pretty stiff right out the box I wouldnt get a half size up unless you have some wide feet. I got the gumsoles super strong and the impact is good. Overall I really like the shoe its durable and once its broken in it really skates good. Thanks Tactics.

New Balance 598 Skate Shoes - black
This is probably one of the best cupsole shoes on the market right now. The sizing is snug in the toe box so maybe a half size up. There is a break in period for the stiffness and grip but a week of wearing them while not skating helped. Very thick insole, and built solid. This sole is a great blend of grip and it shows zero wear after at least 20+ hours if skating. The N logo is getting shredded and the toe stitches are too, but they are decorative anyway. I wouldn't recommend them if you are switching from something thin and Vulc you may want a less tech cupsole to start. They remind me of 1st generation Dunks for durability and feel.

Does it need to have its insole replaced? I wanna be able to just hang out in the shoe when I'm not skating.
Answered by James D (Tactics Employee) on 9/5/2017
The insoles in these, as well as most other NB# shoes are pretty comfortable as is. I've only personally swapped them out on one pair, and that was because I was trying some new insoles for the first time, and not due to the original insoles being uncomfortable. Long story short, these will still be super comfy out of the box.
