Ride Style

Commuter - Commuter boards cover a wide range. Whether you're cruising to the store on a beverage run or crossing from suburbs to downtown and back on the daily, commuting boards are made to make your life a little easier and a lot more fun.

Shorter boards in this category make up the cruising department. Some have functional kicktails, but they're still made to fit large wheels so you won't get hung up on any rocks. Some are even small enough they can fit in lockers or under a work desk.

Longer boards are made for distance skaters. With features like rocker, flex, and anything to lower your center of gravity, commuting boards make skating feel like you have your own cloud underfoot. These boards are really great for beginners and experienced riders alike.

Never make the boring mistake of walking again, get your commute on.

Carving & Pintail - Deep carves, boardwalk cruising, and mellow hills are calling you. This is the traditional Californian longboard and is still relevant today. You'll find the longest wheelbases in this category meant for big turns and a large surface area for dancing.

Mounting Style

Drop Through - Drop Through boards lower your center of gravity, giving you a more responsive and stable ride. Trucks are mounted through the board and truck bases will sit either flush or slightly above the deck surface. Great for high speed assaults or even cruising around town to your local watering hole.

Note: If assembling yourself, you'll first need to remove your longboard truck hanger from its base by unscrewing the kingpin. Once separated, reassemble the trucks through the mounting area (sandwiching the board between the hanger/base of the truck), then tighten the kingpin nuts and you're ready to roll.

Deck Profile

Camber - Camber gives you a charged feeling underfoot and better leverage for turns. Camber boards can feel a bit more like a spring at first, but any rider will appreciate how this makes the board responsive. Camber boards are especially fun for commuter decks, freestyle, and cruisers where you'll be carving a lot.

Deck Shape

Directional - Directional boards might have concave towards the front, maybe the tail is tapered, it could be shaped to have a fatter nose than tail, and it probably feels awkward if you hop on backwards. However, when you want to pump a board, or you want to have something that sets you up for the fastest line, directional boards are great. Whether you are looking for a really responsive directional board for carving and cruising or a precision downhill deck, a directional board could be in your future.

Deck Features

Cutouts - With big wheels you need lots of room to carve and dig into turns, cutouts around the wheels provide the extra space required to prevent wheelbite while cutouts for your trucks appear on drop through decks so you can ride closer to the ground.

Board Series

Sector 9 Bamboo Series - With an eye towards the environment, and patented laminating process, Sector 9 started making boards from 100% bamboo. An ideal raw material, bamboo can regenerate itself by up to 4 feet a week. Incredibly strong and resilient, it had to be made into a skateboard. Save a tree. Ride a weed.

Deck Construction

Vertically Laminated Bamboo - Vertically laminated Bamboo for 100% radness. While some bamboo decks are just for show, this deck is made from springy, durable, and eco-friendly bamboo. Get some!

Deck Features

Taco Mold - Keeps your feet where they need to be for secure carving at speed.

Trucks

10" Gullwing Charger Trucks - 10" Gullwing Charger Trucks feature a reverse kingpin setup that provides improved turning for downhill and carve-oriented skating.

Wheels

74mm (78a) Top Shelf Wheels - TS wheels are the ultimate cruiser wheels. Soft enough to roll over rough concrete and debris and a wide contact patch of 49mm for grip, these wheels will keep you in control.

Bearings

ABEC 5 Greaseball Bearings - Get your roll on right! This deck comes equipped with ABEC5 durable Greaseball Bearings.

Sector 9 Lookout 41.125" Bamboo Drop Through Complete Longboard - black trucks / blue wheels
I love this board and I never get speed wobbles even over 20 mph! The ride is also very smooth and very easy to control. Also, I was a beginner when I started and after an hour or so of riding I felt like I had been riding for years. This board makes it very simple to learn if you have never rode before.

Asked by Andrew Araujo on 12/21/2016
Would this be a good deck to cruise around on over very rough asphalt. Is it good for long rides?
Answered by James D (Tactics Employee) on 12/27/2016
Yes, this board has 74 mm wheels, which is fairly large. Having bigger wheels helps deal with extra bumpy terrain.

Asked by Marc on 2/18/2013
Which board would be better: This or the iguana clxs. I'm looking for occasionally bombing hills, cruising most of the time, and getting from point A to point B.
Answered by Jesse C (Tactics Employee) on 4/2/2013
I think you will like the Lookout more. The Iguana is nice and long and will be stable on hills, but the Lookout is only a couple inches shorter and will still be stable. The Lookout is also a drop-through, which lowers your center of gravity and helps maintain control at speeds. The drop-through is also really nice for just cruising around. Being lower to the ground makes pushing easier too.

I'm a big guy- 6'3" about 230lbs- would this board be strong enough for me? I'm looking at this or the arbor axis
Answered by Kyle R (Tactics Employee) on 3/7/2013
Yes this is board is constructed from 5 vertical plys of bamboo, so its weight capacity will be more than capable of carrying a 200 - ~260 lbs
