    Amazing Face Mask

    BlackStrap The Hood Balaclava
This thing is great. I dont always like to ride with my facemask up, so the hinge mouth piece is where it's at. I ride with it off my face but stay warm with the rest of the full balaclava. Then, when I need the face protection, I just toss it up on my face and it works perfectly while staying breathable. It has never frozen up on me and Oregon can have some harsh weather. Only Face Mask company Ill be buying from in the future.

BlackStrap The Hood Balaclava - steel
This is a great product! Only complaint is that the company logo is on a stiff rubber square about 1" in size and located a little under your chin, which doesn't work for wearing this under my ski helmet. I removed the logo with a seam ripper. It works great now!

BlackStrap The Hood Balaclava - snow issue
Could not find a balaclava long enough in the neck to keep tucked in, as I'm a snowboarder you're constantly moving around. This one is long and the neck tucks in well. Its not for artic degree days but it blocks the wind well and keeps your face from freezing. I used mine in about 15-20*F at night and was comfortable.

BlackStrap The Hood Balaclava - semper camo
I've got a big head, fits fine. Super stretchy. I've got a lot of the tubes by the same company, this is just for really cold days where I need more protection around the openings of my helmet.

BlackStrap The Hood Balaclava - camo 6
I love the Camo and I love how it fits without goggles on. But when I wear goggles on it, it keeps pulling down around the nose area. And it says it's been tested in -6 wind chill but even wearing it at Bear Mountain, where the wind chill was lowest at 15-20F, I could still feel the cold on the lift. Seems it'll be more ideal when I use it for cold weather uses like backpacking/camping

BlackStrap The Hood Balaclava - space purple
I wear it regularly for snowboarding and really tested it on Whiteface Mountain by Lake Placid. The weather was rather frigid, 0-20 F, but this balaclava held up pretty well.
As the photos suggest, the designers envision you can wear the adjustable portion anywhere from under your chin to over your nose. From my experience it did well anywhere from the chin to sitting under my nose, but putting it on my nose came with some squishing (and I don't have a long nose). It's long enough to slip right into shirts, sweaters, etc. The material is tight enough to not sag, which actually doesn't sacrifice much breathability on the mouth but does make talking through it mildly uncomfortable.
It was pretty warm despite the conditions, but it's not windPROOF. You wouldn't want to be on an open chairlift for 20min on a cold, windy day or atop a summit at -20 F, as we could have at Whiteface. For that reason I would go into "extreme conditions" (i.e. colder/windier than those I faced and described above) with a thicker material to protect against the elements.
Overall, I would recommend this because it is comfortable, it fits well and serves as a great liner for a helmet, it didn't fog my goggles even when I wore the balaclava on my nose and the goggles on top, and it does well for conditions most people face on the slopes.
