Tactics Boardshop, in partnership with Nike SB and Independent, is stoked to bring large-scale competitive skateboarding back to the Willamette Valley. 2014 will be our inaugural year for Northwest Jam – featuring many of the top flow and sponsored pro-am rippers from Oregon, Washington and wherever.

Skaters will compete in a “survive & advance” format with runs in both the bowl and street sections of WJ Skatepark. Winners will take home cash, prizes and podium bragging rights. We’ll cap the day with a winner-takes-all $1,000 best trick contest.

Here’s everything you need to know about Northwest Jam ’14.

● Entries will be capped at 60 skaters. Registered skaters will be joined by Tactics team riders plus six local qualifiers from Eugene-area events earlier in the summer.

● Skaters must be either a flow or sponsored rider, with current and verifiable ties to a recognized skate shop or industry brand.

Registration is $35 and must be pre-paid. UPDATE: Due to a generous grant from Lane County Tourism to help seed this event, we are waiving the entry fee for our inaugural Northwest Jam. Flow/sponsor skaters can register for free. All skaters will receive a NWJ t-shirt, various free swag from Tactics and other event sponsors, plus free admission into the Tactics After Party (8 p.m. to 1 a.m. following the event) featuring Leo Romero’s band Travesura.

● Discount hotel rates are available for competition participants.

The competition format will emphasize the versatility of Eugene’s new WJ Skatepark — 23,000 square feet of concrete, coping, rock, brick and metal. The park is transition heavy, but does offer some street features. Skaters will be judged not only on their skill and style, but also their versatility throughout the various sections of the park. The unique “ribbon” section will be in play! For more about the competition course and our best trick area, check out our WJ Skatepark info.
