Patagonia Light and Variable Boardshorts - rockwall
These are no frills, no BS boardies. They do what they are supposed to do and are comfortable as heck. They dry fast, provide minimal drag while swimming or body whompin'. They are comfy to surf in. Double knot them and they will stay on. The 18" length is a perfect all around boardie. I'm 5-7" so I need the "shorter" shorts. The proportions are perfect; 18" outseam, 9" inseam, 9" rise, 12" leg opening (24" diameter) for a size 32. They fit true to size. However, there is one minor drawback, the pocket is a bit too small. It will not even fit an iPhone. No big deal though. You can fit the critical stuff, ID, credit card, cash.

Patagonia Light and Variable Boardshorts - glass blue
Board shorts are a great UL gear choice for at least four reasons:
1. They weigh only four ounces — about half of what most hiking shorts weigh.
2. They're very breathable.
3. They dry in no time.
4. The drawstring eliminates the need for a belt.
These strengths outweigh the few inconveniences. One such inconvenience is that the pocket is a little too small. It just barely fits an iPhone.
