Aside from looking totally bomb, these shoes come with a plethora of tech features built for the avid skater. Rubber bumpers were placed on the heel and toe for extra stability, working in conjunction with Thermothane Ollie Pads on the sides of the shoe to help protect against the notorious wear caused by flip tricks. One of the coolest and most innovative features is the Lycra Spandex Heel, which virtually eliminates heel rub that often tends to cause blisters. It also offers the full range of motion that you would achieve in a low-top shoe without compromising ankle support. Simply genius.
Vulcanized - “Vulc” shoes are light, flexible and break in quickly. The sole consists of several layers of rubber, glued together then attached to the upper with rubber foxing tape. Vulcanized soles don’t provide as much foot protection or support as cupsoles, but they are preferred if you’re looking for good board feel in a shoe with less weight and bulk.
Gusset Tongue - Elastic gussets connect the tongue and the midsole, giving you a snug fit and keeping your tongue in place.
Lycra Spandex Heel - A lot of mid and high top shoes tend to rub against the Achilles heel causing blisters. Etnies had the brilliant idea of placing Lycra Spandex right in the spot where your heel would rub, giving you a more comfortable shoe that prevents blisters in the typical "problem area" without compromising ankle support.
Thermothane™ Ollie Pad - Thermothane™ is a minimal, lightweight and durable synthetic provided to protect against abrasion and in turn increase the life of your shoe.
Rubber Heel Bumper - Adds heel stability and extra protection from wear caused by heel flip tricks.
