Kyle Walker's pro model shoes blend the responsive flexibility of a classic vulcanized sole with the impact support of a cupsole thanks to Vans' Wafflecup Construction. The plush Ultracush HD footbed offers additional impact protection needed for gaps and stairsets. Vans also added Duracap reinforced suede throughout the upper for extra abrasion resistance. What this means for you is more flick for your hard-earned money. You can tell Kyle went all out on these so take advantage.
Vulcanized - “Vulc” shoes are light, flexible and break in quickly. The sole consists of several layers of rubber, glued together then attached to the upper with rubber foxing tape. Vulcanized soles don’t provide as much foot protection or support as cupsoles, but they are preferred if you’re looking for good board feel in a shoe with less weight and bulk.
Cupsole - Cupsoles are durable, well-cushioned and provide the best impact protection against hard landings. The sole consists of a single rubber layer, reinforced with glue then stitched to the upper. Cupsoles generally last longer than vulcanized soles, but don't provide as much flexibility and board feel right out of the box.
Original Waffle Outsole - Back in '66, Paul van Doren made the first soles of his new shoes twice as thick so they would wear longer. That decision ended up defining the company when the world's first skateboarders discovered how Vans' rubber Waffle Outsole let them feel their board while staying firmly connected to it.
Wafflecup™ Construction - Vans’ revolutionary Wafflecup construction offers today’s skateboarders the support of a cupsole without sacrificing any of the grip and board feel of a traditional vulcanized shoe.
First, the upper is stitched together, then the soft, uncured rubber is wrapped around the upper.
Next the gum rubber vans cupsole is fitted to the uncured rubber. After that the toe bumper is wrapped around the "wafflecup".
Finally the shoe is then heated in the vulcanizing oven until it's fully cured and bonded, just like a traditional vulcanized shoe. End result: cupsole support, vulc feel.
Duracap - Vans shoes with Duracap feature reinforced rubber underlays in the areas where your shoes wear out the fastest. Durcap was developed and tested to withstand the abuse of the Vans pro skateboarding team, and gives you added durability even if you skate daily.
UltraCush™ HD - Vans' polyurethane-based UltraCush™ HD sockliner keeps the foot close to the board yet won't pack out over time, providing the highest level of impact cushioning.
