GORE-TEX® - GORE-TEX® fabric is incredibly durable, waterproof, breathable, and totally windproof. A single square inch of this fabric contains 9 billion microscopic pores—each 20,000 times smaller than a raindrop, but 700 times larger than a molecule of water vapor. Water can’t pass through the fabric, yet perspiration escapes with ease. You’ll find this next level molecular construction on all GORE-TEX® fabrics.
Seams
Fully Taped - Having outerwear with fully taped seams means that on the inside of the jacket all the seams are covered in tape to provide the most effective waterproofing. It can be considered a key feature if you live in a wet climate or are planning on wearing the jacket during heavy rains. The downside is that due to the full taping there is less breathability than you'd experience with critically taped seams.
Insulation
Low-Loft Synthetic - Low-loft insulation provides warmth without losing versatility. Because low-loft insulation is made of synthetic fibers it maintains much of its insulating ability even when wet. A lower loft rating means it won't keep you as warm as jackets with high loft but it's more versatile and dries more quickly than traditional down.
Insulation Rating (g)
Synthetic insulation is measured in grams, so a jacket with a 80g rating simply means that a 1 meter by 1 meter piece of that particular jacket's insulation weighs 80 grams. The higher the rating, the warmer the outerwear.

Volcom Fern GORE-TEX Pullover Insulated Jacket
Love this jacket! Super effective in all the wet conditions in Washington. I'm 5'4" and 120lbs and got the XS. Sometimes I throw a light micro-puff under for extra warmth on >10 degree days, but usually, my fleece lined thermals do the trick enough.
The latest style does have a pass pocket on the sleeve, too. Seems like the older styles may have lacked that according to reviews.
It's super stylish and warm. It's flattering and has enough room in the hips to keep you mobile and your booty covered on the lifts and runs without being too bulky or constricting. Also easily accessible with the side zip to get to your bibs or pants without being a huge pain for being and anorak.
Really comfortable and easy to put on and take off with the long neck zip, and easy side zip. I'm 5'4" 120lbs and the XS fits perfect with a medium weight layer underneath. The cut is long, about mid hip and overall just a great looking and technical jacket. The only downside I've noticed so far it that there is no pass pocket in the sleeve and not a great media pocket for easy access to your phone.
